What is Alloy Wheel Insurance?

Alloy wheels look fantastic, but kerbing them is a risk you’ll always run – and between potholes, tight parking and road debris, Irish roads can be tough on them. Repairing a damaged alloy can be expensive, and claiming on your car insurance means paying an excess and risking your no-claims bonus.

AA Alloy Wheel Insurance covers the cost of repairing cosmetic damage to your wheels, with a mobile technician who comes to you. And if a wheel is beyond repair, we’ll contribute towards a replacement.

  • New and used cars
  • Dealer or private sales
  • Policies of 1 to 3 years

Handing back a car on PCP or lease? Damaged alloys can mean charges at the end of your agreement – cover helps you avoid them.

Alloy Wheel Insurance FAQs

What is Alloy Wheel Insurance?
It covers the cost of repairing cosmetic damage to your alloy wheels caused by kerbing, potholes and road debris, with multiple claims a year and no excess to pay.
Are my alloys covered by my car insurance?
They can be, but you’ll usually pay an excess and a claim could affect your no-claims bonus. Alloy Wheel Insurance keeps those small repairs separate.
Is Alloy Wheel Insurance worth it?
It depends on how you use your car, how far you drive and the roads you drive on. It’s particularly worth considering if your car is on PCP or lease, where wheel damage can lead to charges when you hand it back.
What happens if my wheel can’t be repaired?
If a wheel is beyond repair, we’ll make a fixed contribution towards a replacement. See the policy documents for the amount.
Do I need to tell my insurer about my alloys?
Factory-fitted alloys are normally included. Aftermarket alloys usually need to be declared to your car insurer.
Can I buy cover for a used car?
Yes – for new and used cars, including those bought privately, as long as the car is eligible.
